Been out today for first serious ride on my 'new' VTR and...

......... bl%dy love it! Have done about 240 miles today just enjoying the southern sunshine. Yes, am a bit fed up with the tank size already, but it feels so stable and just pulls so well in any gear. Must be 'cos it's yellow. Brakes seem good and even the std front end seems better than my old Suzi GSX 600 F. The sound of the Scorpion cans without baffles ( err no they WERE definitely in there when I left officer I'm sure), is fantastic.

Reservations. Same as all bikes I guess. Those mirrors are pathetic. I would like wider ones so I don't just see just my elbows. Trouble is my gate to the back garden is just wide enough for these std issue ones (and I rent the property so no chance of cutting mirror shaped gaps in the posts!!).
I noticed that Kawasaki 600's have ball/socket type adjusters that allow them to swing in as required. Anyone done such a mod etc?
Anyone fitted a gear indicator device?
Anyone know if ChainTec oilers are kaput/bankrupt etc? Mine fitted to the bike is working OK but just thought I'd ask in case....!

Well maybe it's 'cos at 6'2" I sit higher?
Seen some mirror extenders on eBay, but assume they leave the mirror fixed in place again..... only wider.
Also, crash bungs/bobbins. Best ones? Ta

Been out also for the first time today, only 42 miles.
6ft 2" would like to raise the bars 10mm or 20mm not sure if you can though.

Pulls like a train, easy to roll on from a start, from stand still with no rves it seams.

Would a 2001+ bigger tank fit?

The mirrors fold in on the storm. If they have not been moved much before the will be very stiff.

As for a gear indicator I know 'Stratman' has fitted one

The actual point where the standard Storm mirror's fold in is under the rubber boot on the mirror arm

If as Fireman on a Storm has said they are very reluctant to fold in you can adjust the resistance by slackening off the pivot bolt, but to do that you will need to remove the mirror from the bike first so you can pull back the rubber boot giving you access to the pivot nut and bolt

Thinking about it you can probably release the rubber boot by just slackening off the two 10mm nuts which secure the mirror to the bike

Indeed I have - a Digigear one and its very useful. I probably need to reprogram it as its a little confused sometimes as I have fitted a larger rear sprocket. They are quite easy to fir but you MUST solder the connections or it won't work.

I soone got used to the mirrors but earlier R6/R1 mirrors will bolt straight on I believe.

As for the Genmar risers, why bother? Just raise the bars to the top of the fork tube - admittedly the lug doesn't engage in the yoke anymore, but I rode thousnds of miles like that with no problems - got the same height as the risers would have given anyway. I've dropped them down again now as I use the TDM for touring and the Storm for blatting!

Weather in the south fab so..................... another 150 miles sorted. Ha, life is great when it all goes like this.

As to the mirrors, yep you're right. The pivot point under the rubber boot was done up incredibly tight. Might try some spacers as with them folding back width won't be a problem (actress said to the bishop!).

As to digital gear indicators I was going to try an Acumen one and see how good it was. If I do I'll report later on.

The acumen DG8 can be seen on the lhs of the console showing n for neutral. Easy to fit once you work out what goes where. MUCH easier to set up with a paddock stand than trying to do so on a road. It works well and certainly helps you know "where-you-are-in-the-'box". Good bit of kit and nice for those of us who like the extra toys!!!
Also, heated grips are rather good this time of year IMHO !!!

You mensioned crash mushrooms, got a set of Motrax DHM mushrooms on mine,40 quid new, look OK ,upto the job ,plus they double up as knee rests to take the weight off your wrists when pottering around in traffic!

Depending on how long in the leg you are I found those DHM/ Motrax ones clouted my knee the instant I started to hang off even slightly!
I've got 33" inside leg BTW
Mine are from Rhencullen and mount further forward whilst still not needing any fairing cutting
