TYRES FOR SP1

Just bought an SP1 and I'm very well pleased with it.

I have a question though for you guys who know about these things....

The Firestorm (on Dunlop 207s) was reluctant to heel over into corners and almost needed heaving over.

The SP1 wants to tip over as soon as it gets a hint of a corner coming up. In fact turning at junctions its fairly tricky for me at present (specially in the wet). I does seem to get more stable as cornering speed increases. Its currently got Bridgestone 014s on.

Is this just the diffent geometry of the SP1, different profile tyres, or just me.......

I'd be grateful for any advice.

Different bike different feel!

I have 014s on my storm and had 012s on the last one. I've had no problems at all.

Tyres can make all the difference, though as Faireman said, different bike.
I HATE Dunlops!! Had them on my ZX6 and Storm when I bought them and went straight for Bridgestones at the first opportuntity

last dunlops I liked were ' Red Arrows'.........1977 ish.

Metzler were Ace on BM.........always liked Michelins too,
now on BT 014 on GSXR.

FAV tyre BT 020.

Guess tyres are a bit costly to replace these days.
Will see how these 014s last before swapping.

It's a common mod to drop the forks down through the yokes by 5-8 mm to speed up the stearing on the SP. I would check it to make sure it's not been over done. Mine feels quite neutral when I lie it down and yours should too. It does drop in a bit quicker than the Storm though.
I'm currently running Metzlers on mine, huge improvement over the Dunslops it arrived with

Thanks everyone.

I've decided to stay with the BT014s for now. I guess I've got used to the handling because I don't notice the sharp turn in as much as I did at first.

I checked whether the front has been lowered and it hasn't been, although I've ridden a friends SP1 which has the front lowered and it didn't feel radically different.

I'm just waiting for some dry weather.............
