Anyone else finding the view you get via the VTR's mirrors ?

Post by LotusSevenMan »

I really find that I'm getting tired of seeing my elbows so much while riding. They are nice in the colour matched leathers (ooh err) but It would be good to see what's behind me or about to slip up the outside at speed (another mate with a VTR?) etc. To this I have looked at ways of getting a better view at the probably expense of looks and bike narrowness (!)

Professional ones seems to be around at about 20 ish + 4ukp postage and offer 50mm/2" extensions a side. I thought that would just give me another angled view of my elbows.
I have made up some pivoting extender 'bars' that move the mirrors out 100mm/4" a side. Yeah, I know that makes the bike 200mm/8" wider but I don't normally need to trickle down through traffic anyway. They can be swung back to suit my narrow gateway to the back garden (VTR's home). I have made them that length as I can always make 'em 50mm shorter if that width becomes a problem, but the other way round................yeah right!!!
Try them out as soon as the lousy weather is a better etc. Might look cr*p, or might be brilliant. One has to try these things eh?

PS If anyone knows of a decent way to post pics I'll do that but I'm not sure @ present how to!!!!

Yeah - the crap mirrors are real pain for me. Do a fair bit of motorway riding daily and I hate not having a good view behind me. The winter jacket doesn't help either.

I have got used to the mirrors - in fact, having to adjust your view to get a good look can be a safety check. Then again I'm only 5' 7" tall (with 42 inch chest if we're comparing  )

Don't forget that some earlier model R6/R1 mirrors will fit and are wider - there have been several posts on this so they should be searchable.

Well I will report soonish re view from the extended mirrors if I get a chance to try them out. Am taking opportunity while screen is released by lack of mirrors to see about fitting the digital gear indicator wiring and the new talking alarm system. Unfortunately my workshop is the back garden with a blue (grey!) sky above so not condusive to extended working times. Raining at the moment too.

Dookie.
Me moving my elbows around looks like I'm going into golden eagle mode. Any more flapping and I'll take off!!!

Digi gear indicators are brilliant - well worth it. I soldered my connection to the wires at the back of the instrument binnacle - just bare a bit of wire and resolder the digi wire to it and insulate.

Keep dodging in and out due weather and not really happy with the extension lead out in weather like this to the soldering iron (even with the plastic bag over it!!!).
