Hi All ...

Has anyone on here fitted MIG cans to there storm and changed the jets ?
I have mig cans on my storm but it does seem a fluffy low down , basically do you have re-jet with these cans , would there be an advantage in doing so as I want to get it ready to track next year .

Rob,

Re-jetting will definatly help, however to really get her up to par you would want a K&N and then a couple of dyno runs. (i think bens done this to his and will be able to explain better than me).

If your going to track your storm then ground clearance is a problem, i have enough hassles on the road so i can see the track posing problems. Mainly the downpipes for me!

Also if your gonna fit crash bungs for track days make sure that all the indicators are changed to flush ones or the bungs will be useless!

And for true track-godness get roger at revolution to sort your front forks or change to some USD ones with 6 pot bembros and a nice peske rear shock!

Hi Squiffy ..

I have a maxton rear shock and maxton front fork internals(handles lovely)feels like a 600 but goes like a thou! , 6mm spacer on the rear shock and high level mig cans , I have heard about ground clearance problems so I guess I`ll set the suspension up a little stiffer for the track and see how it goes ! ...

I would say the 6mm spacer will give you more ground clearance than standard.
I fitted a Maxton spring to my standard Honda shock and I was amazed what a difference it made to the handling (imo much better) so the set up you have should be very good :!:

Cheers chris , it does handle really well on the road so I guess on the track (smoother surface) it should be spot on .
Just need to sort the fuelling , I haven`t a clue what size jets to use ,maybe someone on here could give me a pointer !!

Dynojet kit comes with 180 and 190 jets i think, i can't get my bike set up right, not been back to the dyno in a long time, but i think i might need to try 185 jets to solve my problem.

I WAS TOLD BY THE CHAP ON DYNOJET STAND AT THIS YEARS SHOW TO TRY 170 JETS WITH CANS ONLY AND 180 WITH FULL EXHAUST.I CURRENTLY HAVE MICRON RACE PIPES ON,VERY LOUD AND A BIT LUMPY BELOW 4K REVS BUT THEN EVERYTHING CLEARS UP AND GOES BALLISTIC.ALSO PUT A SMALLER REAR SPROCKET ON FOR BETTER ACCELERATION.
HAS ANYONE EVER FITTED A 2 INTO 1 EXHAUST? IF SO WHO MADE IT AND DID IT ALTER PERFORMANCE

Hi Phid Welcome aboard :D

170 def the right size for a std noise change of can. if you go full race then you need to go bigger (this is with Dynojet needles & jets). Haven't done a 2 into 1 exhaust so I can't help you there but if you put a LARGER rear sprocket on it might even accelerate faster still :wink:

THANX PETE, JUST CHECKING TO SEE IF EVERYONE IS PAYING ATTENTION!( PLUS A BIT OF DEMENTURE SETTING IN THESE DAYS.)

SO WOULD YOU SUGGEST I TRY 180 JETS WITH THE MICRONS?WHAT ABOUT ALL THAT STUFF IN THE AIRBOX,I FITTED A K/N FILTER AND TWO OF THE VENTS ARE NOW BLOCKED OFF BY THE RUBBER THINGS THEY SUPPLIED.

Hi all,

If I could add my two pence worth.

I run a mobile dyno in a 7.5t truck and get paid to attend race meetings by the ACU, however I do various dealer days & shows etc etc.

As has been said before on this site if you change anything you will need to get a dyno run done with the fueling checked.

In the majority of cases I have tested, fitting an after market can has always made the fuel richer. Squiffythewombat was right on the ball. I would also suggest a "Good" air filter first.
If you treat the engine as a simple pump, then fitting a new easy flow exhaust has helped the exhaust side of the engine but you need to play fair.
If you mod one side of the pump you should mod the other. I.E. the inlet.
Do that before you visit the dyno. The word I'm looking for is balance.

Most of the time I have found on the dyno Richer = fluffy = smaller jets required.

I should have three set of cans on the way to me in December from the manufacturers as arrange at this years NEC show, I'll tell you how I get on with them over the winter testing them om my 2000/2001 FireStorm.

I'll be interested to see your results. What make(s) of cans are you trying?

Phil,
My laser pipes couldn't run the 180's even with the K&N filter. Bigger doesn't necessarily equal more power. Like Styler said, you have to maintain a proper balance. The more efficient the burn the better the results
