Hi All,
Thinking of having my forks on my totally standard Y2K Storm 'Rogered'. However I will not make any other mods, if I'm gonna throw more money at her I'll change bike....
Question is will this mod make a big difference or just show up deficiencies elsewhere, ie at the rear where most people also upgrade the shock? I ride solo sometimes with limited luggage, the front feels vague and unsure, but the rear is set up on fairly soft settings but seems fine.

If it were me I'd ask Roger at Revolution Racing the same question
Knowing what type of guy Roger is he won't give you any sales patter, he'll tell you the truth.
I find it strange you are prepared to spend a few hundred pounds on the front suspension but nothing on the rear, but you'd rather trade the bike in for another, which will more than likely cost you loads more than a few hundred pounds
Perhaps you're not really happy with the Storm, I hope that's not the issue, (everybody to their own, I appreciate that) but if it is, you will be wasting your money full stop

Generally the consensus of opinion from storm owners is that the front is to soft and the rear to hard.. some peeps go for heavier oil and stiffer springs up front. and back off the rear a little..or . take it to roger.who will work his magic on it [sorry teut].. he did mine last year both ends.. [ i had the penske rear shock fitted ] for £835..now the bikes only limitation is ME...if i can stay on it...
.. but IMHO no point in doing the front unless you do the back ...i think you will find it wanting if you do..but i highly recommend rogers work..he and Teut at revoloution are top blokes...

You really don't have to spend all that money!
Front forks - I had mine resprung and 15wt oil fill, about £110
Hagon Shock - about £250.
Done about 5 years ago and the difference is amazing. Drained and refilled forks again last year. Shock prob needs rebuilding again but that will only cost about £50.

vit off line but Ive got Thundercat front end on my 1200 Harley sportster, just had them serviced by MH Racing £130 inc oil, seals, polish tubes, and set up for me/bike weight combo. If I need to I can get different springs for £75, stiffens up the front, may do the storm when funds allow, possibly £500 for an Ohlins rear end.
If you want Revoloution to do it youll have to spend all that money..and its' worth every penny.. just listening to roger Talk about thier racing exploits is worth the money alone .. plus you get NO B.S. and No excuses..who would you want to set-up your bike ? Bazza at the local dealer.. or Roger and Teut,VTR gods r us....proven race winners..Hmmmmmm lemme think...

Thanks guys for all the positive comments, the reason I'm not prepared to spend too much is that you don't get it back if I do decide to sell in say a years time, and I'm doing this to enjoy what has been and still is a great bike which does not have very good forks.
I was out today with a Blade and a 749 and the poor front end rears it's ugly head! I don't want to overtake them, but keeping up would be good!
If I was going to spend more money I'm in the enviable position of being able to afford a newer bike, the only problem is what? - SP2? KTM950SM?....
Think I'll do the forks.

If you want to be cost effective you've a couple of options;
1. Buy springs and oil and fit yourself (don't forget to cut the spacers down as reqd to keep the same spring free length)
Then when you come to sell you can remove the springs and sell them seperately
2. Get the forks sorted by Roger and when you come to sell, advertise the forks for an upgrade-swap on here with cash your way
Then you'll have enough money left over to get the rear sorted by either:
1. Spot second hand unit on ebay (£210 ish)
or
2. Get the stock unit resprung, re-oiled and re-gassed (approx £100)
