wheel tape

Post by RAINMAKER »

fancy some of those red lines around the wheels, anyone tried the tape, does it stick well, how do you make sure it is on round and not wobbly and does it stay on well or come off in the wet?
it may be clever, but its not big.

Bought my SP1 with tape already on the wheels. I think it looks good (sort of flourescent green/yellow on black wheels).

Don't know how easy it is to put on, but its been through all sorts of weather and shows no sign of coming off.
She's my idea of beauty and thats what I ride.

Not sure if I prefer it yet, I put some on just one side of the bike and after 3 weeks still can't decide. It's easy to put on, just make sure your rims are clean.

Put some on mine the other day m8 , went on reasonably easy and you just have to be carefull when putting it on .
You just have to clean your wheels well and it sticks great.
There was a time i used to care

Rainmaker,

Not put it on my bike, but a mate has and he said its an easy job. Just make sure the rims are clean, but dont polish them otherwise the film layer left behind will not allow it to stick.

Most of the kits come with a plastic adaptor, which you feed the tape into then slide it around the rim so you get a perfect gap all the way around the radius of the wheel.

Did this 'mod' on my last Suzuki rims. Cleaned rims with surgical spirit (from chemist) cleans off all grease without marking rims and evaporates to leave a great finish for adhesive.
That was on that bike for nearly a year before I sold it. Good as the day it was applied. My tape was off eBay and came as pre-cut segments and had no applicator that Wroey says is available. It was fine by eye-alignment with rim; just take your time.
I made sure that there was a slight over-lap of the segments and that they faced away from the direction of travel so that forward motion didn't 'hook' up a corner.

In fact they were so good the 'Storm will be getting some soon! :)

My opinion only, I have thought about doing mine on several occasions, but wondered if it looks a bit tarty :!:

Must admit I was concerned whether it would look tarty, but as the tape only cost me 79p I had nothing to lose
As Barry said it looks better on some bikes than others -I went with mine to compliment the red graphics on the bike and I think it works

The pic is from may 05 and its lasted perfectly so far
LotusMan's comment is very important -have an overlap and make SURE it is against the direction of travel
I've got an inferiority complex
But its not a very good one!

Heehee, a fellow Scot is the first to ask!

It was from my local car accessories place (not Halfrauds)
Its just pinstripe and you can get loads of different colours and thicknesses for peanuts

I see there is some (much more expensive than Scottish stuff) tape in differing colours on eBay which is shaped for wheel rims & most importantly is reflective so might help save your life from cagers aproaching a 'T' junction etc? A thought....................!
