Capless bulbs in rear light

I'm having fun and games tracking down a supplier who retail these at a realistic price, not the stupid price Honda dealers want.

They're blowing, mainly the brake light, on a regular basis. I've checked all the wiring and made sure that the earth is a good one, but they're still blowing at a rate of knots. All I can put it down to is vibration. Though the vibes are not that bad to be honest.

Thoughts...............

Capless bulbs?
The only place I know these are on the Firestorm is the sidelight at the front

Have you got an aftermarket rear tail light coz that doesn't sound standard?

Failing that, LED's are much less affected by vibration -look at getting either an LED rear light setup or replace the standard bulbs with LED ones

Standard as far as I know. Even the Haynes Workshop manual shows capless bulbs in the pictures.

yep standard since 97.

err, is the foam still on the seatunit to stop the lens flapping about? (under side of seatunit and touches top of lens)

I've been looking for some capless LED ones for the rear. Got a good, bright 6 X Ultrabright LED one for replacing that poxy 5w bulb in the fairing know in Honda parlance as a 'position light'!

If capless bulbs are the push in type that don't have a steel ferrule round the base, then these are also used on the SP side lights.

Mine broke when i dropped the bike. Tried 3 or 4 all of which blew until I realised they came out of a car dash and were probably about 2v.

I guess if they're from Honda then they'll be correct. If not then its worth making sure they're the right wattage and voltage.

Then I'm probably talking baldrocks - again.

'Bulb' I used for the front fairing 'position light' was this U50116WW which is a white xenon 6 superbright led bulb with wide angle.
You can also get one which is 5 x white with the centre one blue which I think would be a good alternative!!!

mines a 97 and ive got capless on the rear! The LED version can be purchased at most motor factors!!

Personally i dont see the point in having a nice bright LED tail light and then tiny micro indicators that a shrew would have problems spotting!

Yeah, well I have a hard time with these VTR combined rear light and indicators built into the same housing. The indicator are so close to the bike's centre line that a dozy cager ain't gonna know which way you're going to turn if they see it at all. Might look good for a clean profile bike but not much good to you when you're ar$e ended is it?

The answer. Got it!!!

We need those old fashioned trafficators. You know, the orange illuminated arm that used to come out of the side of cars and then tuck back into the bodywork!!!!!!!

LOL Unfortunately I am old enough to remember them, I think I use to (from the back seat of the car) stick my hand out of the window to assist with either making them stick out all the way or in helping them back in

You just jogged my memory, the car I was referring too may well have been a Ford Anglia (nearly the same as the Prefect) did the indicators operate on a vacuum can you remember as the wipers did

if so that would explain the need for my helping hand
