thanks Mike :)

As far as the airbox mod goes, the bike did seem a bit smoother as well as responding a bit more quickly. Of course, as you would expect the differences are slight but given the cost (and reversability) of the mod....

Hi Guys.
Had a good zoom in on the pics never having got to the air filter yet (in 2 months of ownership).

So it appears that a 'u' channel that is screwed to the top section is removed. That normally engages with the upstanding edge and that part is cut/sawn down level. Yes ?
What does this mod do and how is the cut off bit 'reversible' ?

"Of course, as you would expect the differences are slight but given the cost (and reversability) of the mod...."

Cheers :)

air box mod

Yes cut the lip off, its reversable because its a stock air filter and you would replace at service intervals anyway.

Why do the mod because it lets more air through and hopefully giving you a slight and i say slight increase of power and some say more responsive throttle/smoother.

My air filter is a mod i did with a K & N and a standard air filter backing plate :? :? i will explain i purchased a K&n from someone off here he only sent me the filter and no backing plate for the filter to sit in.So i cut the standard filter out of its backing plate and inserted the K & N sealed round it with some very expensive heat/fuel proof silicone and now i have it fitted jobs a good un i just need to do the mod above to finish.Pictures to follow shortly.

The other thing i hav'nt got is the 2 small blanking plates you get with a
K & N kit to block up the sub filters.

Cheers Alan.
That's clear enough. :)

I thought you only got the filter and not the whole assembly as a replacement! That might explain some of the cost.
I assume the sub filters you mention are a bypass if the main filter is blocked with say, fine sand particles as an example and are used to stop the engine sucking the whole filter material inwards.

These K & N's are expensive aren't they, but over the life of a bike I guess pay for themselves eh?

I would absolutely love to add the following to my list:

- ported and polished heads
- Stage 1 cams
- high comp. pistons (around 11:1 would likely do it for street riding)
- balanced crankshaft (smoooooooth)

Yes, it would be nice, and further down the list:
- Upside down forks
- new (or braced) swingarm with fully adjustable shock with reservoir (possibly a SSS arrangement; love your Alan
- frame brace for swingarm mount

Of course, the price tags are what discourage me :( Oh well, doesn't cost much to dream  :)

cheers (from Montreal, Canada...where it was 9 degrees today :!: )
