Crash Bobbins

Post by Wildfire »

Has anyone tried or tested (!) these.....
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VTR-1000-FIRESTOR ... dZViewItem

Not sure if they look up to the job, but I do like the subtlety :?:
I was thinking of getting some R&G or DHM type items otherwise, again any advice as to which is best would be appreciated & Am I right in that there is no modification required i.e Straight Bolt On Fit ?

not a chance will they save anything!

Even my DHMs didnt take a standing drop! Also without flush fitting indicators you will end up smashing the fairing anyway!

(Click crash post etc)
I rather like the latter though you do have to make a fairing mod to fit 'em!

Having met the R&G guys at several BSB rounds, I have the most faith in their stuff. Plus they do a full package - bobbins, bar ends, forks, swing arm and their exhaust protectors rock.

Recommended.

mushrooms

Post by alan »

I would also say R&G are top grade aswell as GS MOKO mushrooms they are top quality not cheap and you need to alter the faring slightly.I have the R&G forks bobbins on my blade forks look the biz.

I also had DHM fitted ages ago but didnt like them they stuck out way too much for me (i know thats the point but!!) and i think are a bit cheap looking but at 40 quid what do you expect.

Toby the point of mushrooms is not to save your pride and joy just to minimize damage only!!!

But the best mushrooms are the ones you need to get up for at 4.00 am in the morning

As Alan said -no mushroom is gonna prevent all damage in every type of crash. You're just looking to minimise it

However those ones at teh start of this thread are utterly pointless -look at the mounting point, its the fairing stay FFS. That piddly bit of alloy would buckle if you leant on it, let alone dropped 200kg of VTR onto it!!!!

Other things to bear in mind

The R&G ones and those M&P ones require cutting/ drilling of the fairing

I've got the rhencullen ones and have been impressed with them -the main selling point was the bracket they mount to is sturdy -to my mind the DHM/ Motrax ones are a bit flimsy looking

The other problem with those DHM/Motrax ones was they mount further back and I kept clouting my knees on them

However, my mate crashed his Storm at Mallory. Went down on the left side, flipped over onto the right and the Motrax ones he had on meant my track fairing he was borrowing (never again! ) didn't have a mark on it!!
Look back through earlier threads and there's some pics of them

These MOTRAX TOP BLOCK ones are on offer at Busters, including a pair of race foot pegs so it seems, although it look like some cutting of the fairing may be required, but still a bargin price!

Just to confirm the Motrax top bloc ones do NOT require drilling

Here's some pics from the post-crash ones
http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4397

You can see the bracket and TBH it doesn't look sturdy enough to withstand the sort of forces it is likely to encounter

alan, yeah i know but surely when your not actually moving they should still NOT BEND!!!

Somewhere on here i posted photos. The mushroom, mounting point and plastic bit all bent! Now imagine if i was going say 30....there would be nothing left of them!!!!

I realise they wont save every bit of plastic but surely the mushroom itself should not bend... from my simple CDT knowledge that means that the material has a lower tolerance than it should!

Maybe i just had some dodgy ones or something!

Also did you think the DHM stuck out a long way???? Take a look at some of the stunting ones lol!

I dunno, maybe the 4 am mushrooms alan mentioned would be better...

They're free and you cant damage a purple space hopping swimming goggle wearing giraffe when you fall off it.

   that depends Kitch if your being chased by the giant jaffa oranges!!

Toby thats what i meant about the DHM they are cheap qaulity where as a top grade crash bung would of probably saved your plastics in a stationary drop.
