Another bike to join the collection.

Post by robnobrakes »

Another bike for the garage, to compliment the Race Firestorm, Road Firestorm and Thruxton.

A 1997 Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport Injection with 37,000km (22000 miles) on the clock, in good condition with MOT to July 2007, but needs the alternator rewinding. I couldn't say no at £1,500.00. I HAVE NO WILLPOWER AT ALL  I collect it on the 31st December.

I NEED HELP!!!!!!!

Looks lovely. :)
Silly cheap money that eh? I mean can an alternator rewind be that much? It's Italian. Silly me. Of course it can.
Answer:- Home charger & a 'total loss' battery system but don't go too far

Those look like Scorpion cans :?:

The cans are original equipment road legal.

I'm told the alternator should cost about £100.00 to rewind/rebuild.

Looks really good. I fancy a Guzzi addition to the garage at some point too!
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

I have been speaking to Forza Italia Ducati/Aprilia/Moto Guzzi dealer at Silverstone regarding the Alternator. Its likely that the alternator will cost between £100 and £200 to repair, depending on what is broke. They also quoted a service charge of £120 to £160 for a full service and check over plus parts. I think I will let them do the lot and expect to pay between £400 and £500. That will mean the bike stands me in at no more than £2K. They thought the bike was worth up to £3K, so its still being bought on the cheap.

I have only ever ridden one across-the-frame V twin. That was a CX 500 and was a borrowed bike for a long weekend. But, it did feel very smooth and was a joy to ride. :)

Maybe my memory is playing tricks?

I saw her in the metal for the first time today when I collected her. I can't ride the beast until I receive and fit the new alternator I bought off Ebay yesterday. The motor runs fine at standstill. I don't want to run her for too long without a working alternator. In the meantime, I'll check over the bike and sort out a couple of minor issues.

These are the photos I took after I had given her a bit of a clean and polish this afternoon. I fitted the mirrors after taking the photos.

What's the black box fitted low down at the front of the engine? Not an oil cooler surely?
Whatever it is it looks susceptible to fine stone peppering from the front wheel 8O
