I just bought a red '98 VTR with upswept pipes and some x-tra trick bits. The engine doesn't sound too good though, it appears to be crank and valve noise. My mechanic recommends a complete repalcement of the engine rather than repalcing the crank and valve. He claims that it is cheaper.
Here's the catch. I'm living in South Korea were it is difficult to obtain VTR parts and mechanics speak little English. Any knowledge of VTR engine suppliers in Japan? What do you suggest?
