Having a chat at a Honda dealer today (in regard to paint codes etc) and we got chatting about the VTR's CCT 'problem'.
He said life expectancy of these in his opinion was very much dependent on one thing. Carburettor balance!!!
He said that if they aren't in synch then those 500cc pots can knock out the CCT's very quickly especially if one kept backing off sharply on the throttle.
Interesting point and it might account for some bikes going for ages with no problems and others having grief fairly quickly-on in the life of a new pair of CCT's.
More info on (possibly) why CCT's fail on occasions!!!

An interesting point which imo could possible not be doing the CCT's any good.LotusSevenMan wrote:Having a chat at a Honda dealer today (in regard to paint codes etc) and we got chatting about the VTR's CCT 'problem'.

I personally think (as we came to this conclusion a while ago LSM) the main reason some CCT's have a shorter life than others is that all replacement CCT's come already fully retracted, putting extra tension on the CCT spring, shorting it's life. I feel in general the original CCT's last longer than the replacement items, because more than likely the CCT's that were fitted in brand new bikes didn't use CCT's that had been hanging round for ages in the fully retracted state.

Most definitely not, the more things that could possible lengthen the CCT's life the betterLotusSevenMan wrote:As you know Sirch I fully agree with this too.![]()
I'm sure there are several reasons, but when I do mine I WILL get the carbs balanced too. It can't do any harm can it?
