It's amazing how quick you can go off people !
Stoney, welcome mate .... Think you've made a wise choice looking at the Honda SP.
As Mellis says, there is very little between the SP1/2. Having ridden both, it takes a good few hours to really identify the differences.
The SP's fuel injection hunts at low revs/speed, so travelling anything under say 30mph or 3,000rpm it does become a bit juddery. You become used to it, and either learn to ride with it or fit a Power Commander which apparently does help. The clutch can be heavy, but that’s only when your stuck in traffic. It does help that they’ve got a fully adjustable hydraulic clutch though ! The suspension is hard as standard, works well when you’re going quick but expect a stiff bumpy ride when not.
You will notice that all the “niggles†mentioned above are to do with you either riding slow, or riding through town areas. The reason its crap at low speed is because its not just made for that, its not made for cruising or commuting. It’s a very focused bike, in that its intended purpose is to go fast, and to handle well …. For which it does both very well.
Best advice is to take one out for a test ride. You’ll instantly appreciate what we say about the fuelling, clutch & suspension, but that wont matter as its such a experience you just cannot describe it ! I promise that if you take one for a test ride and use it for its intended purpose, you’ll become hooked and find one sat in your garage the following week.
In answer to your question about fuel consumption, I normally range from 100 to 110 miles on a tank of Optimax. That’s normally all fast A road riding, some relatively quick B roads and at the maximum ten minutes travelling through a built up town.
I would imagine its very similar bike to the Aprillia RSV, but having not ridden one I couldn’t help you any further there. As for build quality, it’s a Honda ….
Keep us updated Stoney, its good to hear of another person wanting to join the ‘Storm/SP clan as it’s a cracking group. I’m far from a font of knowledge about the SP’s, but any questions put them up here and im sure somebody will know the answer. If not, they’ll know somebody who will ….
Best of luck mate !
