Hyperpro rear shock spring?

Post by mik_str »

Hello everyone :)

Greetings from Canada and best wishes for 2007 :)

Anyone try one of these (progressive rate)? I just ordered one as I find the rear spring a bit too stiff for my weight. As I also ride a lot with a passenger, I am hoping that the progressive rate will give me the best of both worlds (more compliant ride when alone along with no/reduced need to play with the pre-load every time I take someone for a ride).

cheers

thanks for the reply :)

My front end has been re-done (as per Roger's specs btw) with Race-Tech .80 kg/mm straight-rate springs and works fine. My rear shock is a re-valved (Race Tech valving kit) OEM unit. While the valving seems to have taken some harshness out of the ride, the spring is definitely too stiff for my weight (am currently 170 lbs but am looking to whittle tjhat down a bit, which will make the sitution even worse in terms of having an over-sprung rear end). My hope is that the new spring will give me a softer ride over small bumps without compromising bottoming resistance in the pot-holes that litter our roads here in Montreal. It will be some time before I can report back as my VTR is presently hibernating through our Canadian pseudo-winter but I will post results ASAP.

cheers :)

I'd drop a mail to Roger about it. See what he says about the spring rate. I'd reckon best to get a spring to match your weight, then whack up the pre-load for when two up.

I agree with Kitch, you'll still need to adjust the preload for two up riding but it should be heaps better for solo trips once you've got it set up.
And as for reporting back don't worry Spring is just around the corner. Ha! get it? spring is...just..around....oh!never mind

Ah well yes you see my 230lb frame (Me not the bike!!) seems to activate that rear OEM shocker quite well.

In truth the shocker is that 230 lbs is me

Greetings Mik, and best wishes to you also for 2007 :!:

I fitted a Maxton spring to my standard rear shock and have been very pleased with the results, however I don't think it is a progressive spring, I think I'm right in saying it is a linear spring (all the coils are equally spaced) also it was weight related :!:
