I think my bike might be fooked. Left it out in the rain all day, started riding home in heavy rain. Bit of a stutter then a lot of stutters followed by a misfire followed by stalling at lights . Starts alright and idles but under any load stalls and coughs, now sounds really off...
Any suggestions from you engineering types much appreciated
Wet in the electrics would be my first thought too. Does cause the symptoms you describe. Might be ok and sort itself out, but might need a bit of a strip to get stuff dry. (the bike I mean, not you running naked round the garage, thogh it might help, you never know)

Yikes!
Definitely got wet in there somewhere. If it doesn't dry out I'd recommend pulling the spark plugs out and looking at the condition of them. Whichever one is all black and horrible I'd follow the HT lead back to the coils and check/clean all the connections. It should also give you a chance to check the air box and make sure not water has got in as well. Normally those symptoms can be cause by water in the float bowl as well but I don't have any expertise on fuel injection systems.
Good luck
you got water in there some where, might take a bit of stripping and WD40 to flush it out but i should'nt be fooked, you may even find that it dries out on it's own if it's stored under cover.

I had the same problem which I realised only happened after washing the bike. Only happened a few miles down the road when it felt like fuel starvation and could be days after the wash etc. Tried everything, but when I pulled off the front plug lead it was wet. I sprayed with WD40 etc and replaced the cap properly and all well for 1000 miles or so, then the same again. Closer inspection to the front plug cap showed a break in the rubber at the L bend and the plug cap wet again, so I've a new one from David Silver (£25- ouch) to fit this very morning!
Trev, i apologise profusely, have been very busy all week, first back after leave. The pictures are being scanned as we speak and a link will be with you shortly, really sorry for the hold-up mate
