higher bars

Post by eddy current »

Anybody out there in stormland fitted 'proper' handlebars? I,m keen on a 2002 VTR in a local dealers , but wouldn't live with that riding position for long, being 50 this year & with a dodgy back. I'm thinking Lucas top yoke conversions or risers onto flat bars.
Would it be expensive & would there be a whole world of hurt & pain to do the mod? I know it would be a compromise but I'm too old for that 'head down, a*se in the air' stuff.
I've looked at similar stuff for the SV1000s & Lucas list a top yoke for the VTR, which I prefer the looks of.
Any advice appreciated. :?:

Welcome aboard Eddy :!: :D

Some members on here have used bar risers, they have just drilled the top yoke and bolted them on, then fitted flat type bars, obviously it's up to you. I believe the angled ones work the best with the standard fairing. Tony Wilde was one who did this mod. See link for the type of thing he used:-

I installed Heli-bars on mine and am happy with the result. Apparently, the clip-ons from certain VFR800's fit too and help raise the riding position somewhat.

cheers

Hi, eddie welcome,
I fitted some Genmar Handle bar risers to my storm, they have risen the clip ons by 22mm and although I've only been out for a short spin I felt a big improvement on wrists and back and they were easy to fit.

Hi Eddie,

I fitted GB MOTO risers (19mm). Cost was 34.00 delivered. Might get lucky with bidding and get 'em cheaper?????
I bought mine 'off-line' as they were going as high as 40 + ukp.

A set are on eBay at the moment which are the same as mine.

I looked at the Genmar ones but they seemed a lot more money for the same thing!

I am 47 (so near your age) with a wired up with locking wire neck (I broke it on a bike at 19!) and am 6'3" tall and have found that the extra 19mm rise does make a difference. Still get some wrist ache but that happens on a pushbike or whatever these days I'm afraid.

:) Thanks everybody, lots to think about there. Biggest worries are fairing clearance & extending any wiring. Nice to know there's so much experience to call on.
Brilliant website.
