CCTs

Post by Stratman »

Well, the new rear disc and pads are in, shock rebuilt and refitted with some new bolts, suspension linkages regreased and exhaust cleaned and refitted with new gaskets.

Off with the rear cam cover, engine set properly for CCT removal as I'm fitting the APE manual ones. As a precaution I made a hook with a coathanger so the cam chain couldn't slip anyway

Out with the old one and, as I had suspected, the twonk who refitted the replacement engine in 2005 hadn't refitted the metal caps to the ends of the tensioners. I only suspected that because the old ones still had the caps and apparently the new CCTs don't come with them on, or so I read on here a while ago.

Slight pause in proceedings as I have forgotten to get new gaskets for the CCTs.

Not looking forward to doing the front though - the front cam cover looks like a pig to get at - is it :?: I may as well check the valve clearances too whilst I'm at it.

HEY STRAT.good to hear everythings going well,as for the front cam cover, the easiest way i found to do it is taking off the supports for the bottom of the radiators then undo the two bolts at the top of the oil cooler and drop it down, then the cover should come down pretty easy.I'm assuming you already have the tank, airbox and inside cover off from around the carbs.
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it!

Hi Paul,
Adding to Beckster's advice for removing the front cam cover you will also need to remove the oil cooler mounting bracket. To make the job a little easier you will need a socket set with a universal joint, it was either my quarter inch or three eights socket set that I used, a half inch socket set is to big for that job :!:

hi stratman,

depends if you want to remove the front cover or not...if you dont then find the correct position on the markers for the cams / crank on the rear cylinder for its cct removal and then rotate the crank 1 and a 1 quarter turns in the correct direction ( sounded like a haynes manual then didnt I ! 8O ) , at this point you should see the front cylinder tdc marker lined up on the crank pulley and it will be at tdc on compression so you can remove the cct....

cheers

Thanks - I'll do it this weekend - I do have to get the cover off to tension the new manual CCT properly.

I took a few pics of the APE tensioners after I fitted them. You can have a look here
