929 CONVERSION/BIKE SET-UP

Post by beckster »

Afternoon, couldn't help myself today, nice day so bolted on the unpainted seat unit and went for a first scoot since i rebuilt the bike, the engine seems to be pulling well but the suspension set-up was not making me smile,it's a good job i had a steering damper on or i'd be doing another rebuild :x

I think i might have to lose the 6mm spacer on the rear shock to see if that cures some of the unstability, also i'm running pirelli dragon corsa's.

If anyone who has done a 929 fireblade fork conversion and has found a good set-up i'd be glad to hear about it.cheers.

Hi Beckster i would deffenately remove the 6mm spacer you dont really need it with the blade front end, and the blade forks are shorter, i cant comment on any other setup yet as i really need to give mine a good run,i have ridden it on a short journey and felt ten times better than before though.Soon as i get a good run i will post results up with my fork settings.

cheers alan,i'll take the spacer out.

here are my settings at the moment on the front forks
preload - 2 rings showing
compression - 3/4 of a turn from fully in
rebound - 1/2 turn from fully in

maybe they will be of some use to you.

Hi Stephen
have you messed about with the settings much?how did you find it turning in and the reduced lock?

I found it real strange on slow turns (getting in my driveway) nearly fell off  couldnt get used to it and kept trying to turn further but wouldnt because of the stops, resulting in me tipple to oneside abit.Other than that i think the front end is awesome now and i may even take my steering damper off (never ridden the storm without it)

I think after summer (if i cant get used to the lock to lock) i'm gonna grind the stops off and move the rads back 5mm.

The steering is very sharp now, just a bit of counter steer and the bike is right down in the corner,it would be close to my old zxr track bike if it wasn't for the extra weight.

I haven't really noticed any probs with low speed steering, but i'm going to increase the size of the lock stops, just a bit worried about how the bottom tripple clamp hits the top radiator link pipe when i'm moving the bike about.

Hi alan,i was doing a bit of research into front suspension settings and found these at sportrider.com

PRELOAD - 4 lines showing
REBOUND - 1 1/2 turns out
COMPRESSION - 2 turns out

Let me know if they are any good for you,i'm going to try them during the week if i get a good dry day.
