Custom Lids

Post by bacharach »

Have decided to spray my old lid, nothing fancy, just a few graphic stripes. The cheapest I have seen for a custom spray job is far too pricey for a second helmet. I am considering doing it myself. Have done some masking and spraying before on other things so I reckon the ability is there but I could do with a list of do's and don'ts for doing this, or someone who know someone who sprays lids at a reasonable price.
Hopefully someone can help,
Thanks Burt

If you do it yourself, take your time, preparation is everything, use lining tape for masking your lines so there nice and sharp, make sure the masking is nice and warm before removing, flat down the edges before laquering. good luck

Glassfibre I assume? Polycarbonates can be affected by sprays and it weakens the structure!

A very good point LSM :!:

Also be careful of what type of paint you are using if you can't remove the polystyrene lining, as some auto spray can's contain cellulose thinners which if come in contact with the polystyrene will melt it!

Helmet Respray

Post by bacharach »

It is a glass fibre helmet, i have heard about the problems with polycarbonate lids. Hopefully I don't lose the sharp edge when flatting the edges but I will see when i do it. As I don't have an air brush kit so looking at just using normal car spray, which should be ok i reckon but if anyone knows different then I would be happy to hear.
Thanks again for the tips
