Might be worth trying a compression test. If a cylinder is low then its in serious trouble.

It does sound like you're heading for a top end rebuild of some sort.

If you just had the valves done, is there a valve stem seal on the SP that could have been dislodged ??

I agree with Max, if you've just had your valves done it sounds like ones not seated properly.

NEW DEVELOPMENT!

I decided to try and disconnect the Power Commander this 'avo just as a last ditch effort and it appears to have done something. As Chris suggested i looked in the airbox for oil but found nothing. But while i was delving i looked at the PC3 connectors and though well i might as well try thatg. And........ no smoke. I ran it up to full speed and then full revs in every gear to try and re-create the problem but so far........... nothing. Am going to give it the full run out tomorrow to test it but inital results are promising. Will keep you all posted, and BTW thank you so much for all your kind wishes and thoughts, they are deeply appreciated and welcome. Keren says than you too, she was getting bored of me stalking around the house all upset at teh prospect of a broken SP!!!

FIXED!!! Have left the PC3 disconnected and went out for an hour today, and......... no smoke! Will run the diagnostic software on the PC3 and see if there is an error, but for the moment it all looks good!

This doesn't sound good 8O Is it all the time or just when starting from cold? Have you recently had an oil change? Has it only been doing it since the valve clearances have been checked? Are you sure it's oil and not a corrupted power comander map pushing too much fuel through(Smoke more black than blue)?

Hopefully it's not knackerd and just corrupted. With a bit of luck you can down load another map and away you go again.
Nice one Mellis

Glad you got it fixed Mellis.

You should be able to sort out the PC. But then if the bikes OK without it then why bother.

Bugger %$£^&*()(*&^%$£"!"£$%^%$£$ and fook it!

It's back, it seems to be to do with the weather. The temp guage went up to 101 today and it started smoking again, badly. It is no longer just coming out the rear cylinder though, it is coming from both now. Have disconnected the PC3 and it makes no difference.

I really think that something has gone awry in the engine somewhere. The trouble is, do i take it to the dealer for a diagnostic or just get rid? Is a diagnostic going to involve an engine strip? Is that really expensive? Don't forget i am in germany so it's not going to be as bad but there are no Honda main dealers, just a Suzuki one.

HELP!!!

Sad to hear that Mellis.

I'm certainly no expert, but if it were mine I'd take it to your nearest rolling road where there's somone who knows what he's about.

You could then check out the fueling and power. If both are OK then I guess you're looking at some sort of oil burning problem, which would most probably be inlet valve oil seals or some sort of piston/bore problem.

As I said earlier you might get an indicator from doing a simple compression test.

Finally........ it occurs to me that what you may be seeing is water vapour not buring fuel/oil. In which case look for a knackered head gasket. Worth trying to squeeze one of the coolant pipes when the bike is hot. If its rock hard its usually indicates a knackered head gasket. Bear in mind I've never had an SP to pieces and this is based on experience with cars.

Good luck.

I really don't know - especially since you're in Germany.

Over hear my son got his 2 stroke sorted out from scratch, new jets etc. for about £90. A single run is about £30. This was using a guy in Aylesbury Bucks. Course it depends where you go.

As to the cost to fix the bike I don't really have a clue - others on this forum could better advise you. I guess the worst scenario is the pistons and cylinders are knackered, in which case I'd expect it to cost hundreds. But it doesn't sound like thats the problem.
