Fuel consumption and a bigger petrol tank..........

Post by VeetyR »

Guys .... since getting my storm i have noticed it is a very thirst bugger.......general swiftish riding around london with a wang or two on the throttle here n there i am getting approx 80-90 indicated miles before the light comes on.........is this correct??

Is there anything i can do to improve consumption??

and also......will a later model (larger) petrol tank fit my 98 model bike?

Any info would be great here....cheers VeetyR ( john'o )

Not trying to be funny here john but use the search. This has been covered so many times.

Yes, thats about normal for town riding. You'll get another 20 or so per tank on the open road.

The later model tank will fit with a bit of tweeking but thats not improving fuel consumption, thats just carrying more fuel. Ben will be along later to tell you to fit a pipercross air filter and get it set up properly to get more mpg

We need a faq section, all the info is on the site, it's just scattered all over the place.

Not so much a change of tune, more of a key change in an S-club 7 stylee

Reasoning being ease of setup

The Pipercross is a big old filter in so much as it allows air through the entire surface of the airbox
The K&N retains the standard square hole in the middle but with a freer flowing filter

The Pipercross is a bit of a swine to setup. Mine took 16 dyno runs to get spot on (poor BT-020 was mullered!)
The K&N is fairly simple to setup jetting for -Roger will quite happily impart settings that are 95% perfect

The Pipercross gives more top end power
The K&N gives more midrange

See this link for more info regarding the comparison including a handy dyno graph
