Datatag

Post by yellowtrev »

Hi everyone,

Bought the bike last back end and just contacted Datatag to re-register the bike.

They say they cannot because of not having the original registration form, which i don't have.

They can supply me with a subsidised set of 5 transponders and a new registration form for £25. which sounds reasonable.

May seem silly questions but how big are these transponders and where do i put them and if it has been registered previously won't it have transponders already on it, do i remove them and where are they :?

I have asked them this question and they haven't replied, don't know why.

A standard datatag kit has four round transponders that are mean to be fitted as follows:

One in front wheel
One in rear wheel
One in the frame
One inside the tank (with magnetic holder)

And a small glass vial thingy that looks like something you'd inject under the skin of a secret agent to smuggle secrets that you are meant to inject insde your seat foam.

Also a pot of datadots which you are supposed to smear all over valuable bits.

Plus a load of stencils to mark the panels and mirrors.

If all of this has been fitted properly ( HIGHLY UNLIKELY!!!!!) you have zippo chance of getting rid of it.

Especially if the stencils have been used......

It might be that they are offering to supply a set of transponders coded to the existing serial number and are just on the make. In which case you will be £25 poorer but the proud owner of five transponders you will never fit.

One thing though- be careful if trying the mad manoevre of hooking the magnetic holder complete with transponder gunked in epoxy inside your tank. You do not want to drop it.......... The whole idea of glueing things inside your tank just seems wrong. And in your wheels. Especially on a big twin where vibration will probably shke the buggers loose.

Oh yeah, the four round ones are about the size of a large watch battery. The other one is like a grain of rice.

Hmmm?
I thought you would have just cocked your leg and left your mark.
Who needs transponders when the police dogs could just sniff it out.
