Has anyone had any experience with a Superchip programmable ignition on the storm?

Hi alan,as far as i'm aware you can only do this on fuel injected bikes,i think this mod is aimed at sp1/2 owners with fuel injection.The storm uses the mechanical pick up.

Thats exactly what i thought as i have never seen one but there is one on ebay and he says its for the firestorm he used to own

I saw that too Alan, but you have to be very careful with just ignition advance etc as with fixed mixture (ie carbs) it is all too easy to get a real lean spot and before you know it you can change your big ends by reaching down through the hole in the piston!

We get a very similar problem with mapping on old Caterham Se7ens using carbs. Not a very accurate way of metering the mixture you see. Most people go to throttle bodies with injection as that can be sorted properly. A 'correct' mixture ie stoichiometric value of 14.7 : 1 air/fuel ratio is very difficult to achieve with injection systems across-the-board and basically impossible on carbs.

Cheers LSM i was just intrested about it as i have never seen one for the storm,but just been thinking it must be correct as my son has vortex ignition with 2 maps on it for his trx400 quad and they are carbed its just plug and go, directly into the cdi unit so this one must work on th same principal.

At least i'll know where to come for it tuning

That looks like a proper programmable ignition
If thats the case then for Â£25 it would be well worth a punt

Not to put you off but i had a really crap experience with superchips, bought one for my 323ci claiming that it would increase the power and torque curves. All it actually did was make the car drink petrol more and add no performance whatsoever.

Things may be different with their bike stuff though. Just thought i would let you know....

Interesting Mellis as they claim a better MPG and power etc on the boss's BMW X5. He said he couldn't feel any difference other than what felt like a slight stutter. They said it wasn't their kit that did that but they removed it etc after a couple of weeks anyway. Guess what? Stutter went away.

Like I said you need to be laptop computerate and have a lot of set-up kit to get it right and of course they do 'go-off' as engines do change their running with plugs etc etc over time.
