Online petition

Post by Stormin Ben »

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/mini-motos/

This needs signing and forwarding on to anyone that owns a bike
As reported in the MCN this week (and absolutely true for a change) there is a bill going through Parliament at present that will effectively mean that EVERY bike used off road, including legitimate race bikes, will have to be registered and display registration plates at all times. It could also mean the end of building track bikes using different engines/frames etc. This is aimed at the illegal use of minimotos, but as usual is half baked and badly thought out.

This bill has already had two readings and has been unopposed so far, so you need to lobby your local MP now if you want to make any changes to it. It has massive implications for anyone involved in racing and could even spell the end of International racing in this country.

The full draft of the Off-Road Vehicles (Registration) Bill can be found here:

EDIT** now put the correct URL in the above quote**

2 posts? guess I'll put in the sticky one then...

Worte my MP already, he said:

Dear Mr Kitchen

I think I can put your mind at rest. Private Members’ Bills rarely become law as they tend to run out of Parliamentary time (Government Bills are time-protected). The Off Road Vehicles Bill had an unopposed second reading two weeks ago but this does not mean that the Bill is unopposed – in fact it is opposed by the Government as the minister made clear in a lengthy speech in the debate. The Bill will now be scrutinised by a Standing Committee but it stands virtually no chance of becoming law in its current form without Government support.
