CCTS again sorry :-(
CCTS again sorry :-(
Hey all
I know i know we've been through the whole CCT's thing over and over again just wandering if anyone has any ideas:
Had my front CCT fail on me last week, luckily i was just out side of my garage back from a ride when it happened.
Got the new ones in on Sat and ran the bike, sounded fine but after about a mile out on the ride started to get the sound as though the CCT was starting to go again just not as loud. @ about 7K rpm began to make my ears hurt a bit.
Stopped the bike a few miles down the road let had a smoke, and started the bike again. Sound was gone, thought to myself ahaha just needed to settle in...yeh right. About 1.5 miles on the way home came back with the same amount of ear ache.
Have taken the front CCT out and put back in again but doesn't seem to have made a difference. Do we think that it could be the CCT blades which have gone? How big a job are these to change?
Cheers all.

hey there
I had changed the springs about 6 months ago, but the front one failed so i changed it over for a genuin set of honda ones from David Silver spares.
The rear one is completly fine no probs there. Just the front one making the noise.
Cheers

Re: hey there
Well if that's the case then I would swap over the CCT's, put the rear on the front and the front one on the rear, I know that's a bit of a pain but easier than replacing parts that may not be needed, that way you'll know if it's a CCT problem or notjurgen wrote:I had changed the springs about 6 months ago, but the front one failed so i changed it over for a genuin set of honda ones from David Silver spares.

Cheers,
Chris.
PS. Just in-case you haven't, don't forget to fit the metal cap from the old CCT's to the new one's.
Hurrarr...i've got it started and running again did the timing this morning on the front and got it spot on rather chuffed with that.
Still have a bit of a rattle though can't quite put my fingure on if it's coming from the front or the rear though as they both sound pretty noisy.
Also have now managed to pick up a backfire problem now guessing that this could be due to carb's needing balancing after having been moved.

I don't like the sound of that, I think you may have bent a valve or two causing the back firing because all the valves are not fully closed when it fires. If you didn't have it back firing before, and the valve clearances are correct I would suggest doing a compression test. If the valves are slightly bent the compression will be downjurgen wrote:Hurrarr...i've got it started and running again did the timing this morning on the front and got it spot on rather chuffed with that.

Well done for getting the timing sorted

Okie dokie
How random is this: Have taken the CCT's out again, and changed the springs in the old ones back over to my original ones. Put em back in. Rattle has almost completly gone, i think it's my clutch making the noise that it's always made now which is a bonus. 1:0 to me :-) Have now put everything back together started it again, 1 back fire and then all is sweet. Appart from clutch noise...i think.
Going for a quick nip around the block and will report back. Fingures crossed pulls ok in which case will pop into honda on Satruday next week and get the to listen to it to confirm. Back in 10. Don't hold your breath too long :-)

Okay maybe not i take it all back. Came back had enough took the XTZ out. At least that's working hehhehe :-)
Storm seems to run a lot better then it ever has done, well appart from the Rattle and the Backfireing.
Rattle seems to be just as bad it must have been my imagination think your right Sirch. Think we have a bent valve. Am going to go through the process over the next couple of night taking everything appart and seeing how bad the damage is.
Did find out what happened with the Front CCT though, one of the spring ends snapped clean off. Will keep updated, after this should be able to right half the manaual LOL

LOL cheers mate, thought i'd take your advice so ran down to halfords...scum of the earth that they are..no offence to anyone here that works there of course.
Got a tester but they didn't have the adaptor so will ask the neigbour if he's got one that will fit, otherwise will have to order and will be another couple of days.
huff...so back to the MCN dreaming it is

right ho tools have finally arrived....funny how when you need something it always seems to take forever to turn up.
Checked the compression and it's not looking good. It's registering about 10psi so just above zero, may try the rear out just to make sure i'm doing it right but everything says i am.
Me thinks we have a problem here :-( Now would be a good time to cry and think about how many hours it's going to take to get the whole thing appart
