Stoppies

Post by Timmay »

Does anyone else have the problem with the carbs flooding when doing a stoppie? Everytime I brake hard or do a stoppie, my bike misses and sputters for a couple seconds and then runs fine. Anyone have an idea on how to fix it?

I seem to remember a page in the honda manual about the bike backfiring/stalling after hard braking, and it's to do with the carb vent hose. If it's rerouted (towards the rear of the bike I think) it should cure it. Someone with a manual may be able to help more.

I've uploaded a 'how to' piccy to the gallery under the misc section
Image

Basically re-route the breather pipe from the front carb coz as standard it makes a U-bend which causes a vapour lock

Coolant in the carbs?

Post by speedfreek »

You guys seem pretty proficient with the 'Hawks carbs, so
here's a question for you..

I'm about to add a jet kit to my bike and, when I looked at
the shop manual, I noticed that the coolant system is somehow
routed through the carb assembly.

In fact, the manual says to drain the coolant from the bike
before removing the carbs 8O .

As I really don't want to have to replace the coolant every
time I make a jetting change, I was wondering if there was
a way to get access to the floats/jets and needles/slides
without having to bleed all of the coolant?

Is there enough slack in the hoses to twist the carbs over?
Or, is it possible to pinch/clamp the hoses before removing
the carbs -- if so, how much coolant can I expect to lose
when I detatch the hoses?

Just curious..

NOTE:

the photo shows it on the rear carb not front, just incase you do it as per the photo!

Detatch the hoses from the carbs and you only loose about an egg cup. Make sure the engines cold so the fluid does n't spurt everywhere and thats the only concern.(Granny suck eggs and all that)
