Slapping banging noise

Post by johnnyfivesalive »

Gents

I wonder if any of you can help me my firestorm has started making a slapping banging noise from under the tank there has been no loss in performance or anything the noise seems to be more noticable when the bike is cold, But the noise feels like a slapping knocking kind of noise and the revs drop momenterally.

Any help or advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks

John

Does it sound like engine noise, like ticking etc?
Are you moving when it does this? maybe something loose?

If it sounds like top end noise from the rear cylinder, do a search on here for "CCT", it is worth checking.

If you are very careful, you can remove the small bolt from the end and check if the tensioner has tension, just don't wind it right out.
You are probably better off setting the cylinder to TDC as per instructions...

Welcome to the forum btw, where are you from and what colour is the storm :)

Hi andy,

I am from west yorkshire the storm is in red best colour i think she has a high rise bar conversion with renthals art high level cans belly pan dyno jetted k&n rearshock spacershe looks sweet.

The noise sounds like it is coming from one of the cylinders but my mate recently checked out the tensioners and he said they were fine it sounds like a slapping / clonking noise then goes away i read a thread on hear and apparentlyit is common???

does the noise happen when the bike is idleing when stopped or when slowly moving, it could be the carbs backfireing, sounds like a small explosion directly under the tank, it normally happens on mine when i'm going slowly, like manouvering round mini round-a-bouts when the bike is hot or cold, it is normal but some bikes tend to do it more than others.

My carbs are playing up at the moment (too much fuel getting into the front carb) and I can confirm that it sounds like a small explosion under the tank (well actually, a distinct popping noise). Mine is generally drowned out by the thermonuclear scale explosions coming out of the exhaust though!

I live in pontefract only down the road and yes i do go to sherburn i am usually with a kid on a cbr 600 in the movie stars colours.

I think i should stop worrying about the noise as it does not afect the performance in any way at all and the art can do drown out any noise at all they scare kids dogs old folk set of car alarms and piss off the neighbours wicked.
Thanks
John
Ps i will keep a eye out for you at sherburn

Alan,

Nice to meet you at sherburn the other night i had a good look around your bike and i have to say it looks fantastic aspecially the front end mod that looks wicked and the rear ohlins shock looks quite nice to.

Anyway enjoy your ride up to devils bridge on sunday it's a mega ride out but watch out for the fuzz they are all over there they have a full blown subaru a jag and a few range rovers so be careful, Last time we went up the coppers had a radar set up just before devils bridge

Take care
