Can this be done without removing the engine?
Any hints or tips to look out for?
Cheers
Andy
Not wishing to contradict you Toby (Squiffy) but I didn't think the engine does need to come out to remove the front cylinder head :!:

Jurgen has just fitted new valves to his front cylinder head and he didn't mention anything about removing the engine first, as I'm sure he would have if he'd had to.

I've just had a check in the Haynes manual and they definitely say the c/heads can be removed with the engine in the frame.

Andy you will need to follow a similar procedure as for removing the front CCT as in this link http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8326 before you get to the stage of removing the c/head, you will also need to drain of the cooling fluid before removing the c/head. REMEMBER THAT ANTI-FREEZE IS POISONOUS, so take care how you dispose of it :!:

Chris.

That was what my mecanic told me! If you dont have to drop the lump out then thats a major bonus, ill check my haynes tonight and might even give it a go myself...

   That brings back some memories  In years gone by I've made quite a few using that method :!:

It was mainly due to being quicker than having to order them, it meant I could get the bike back on the road sooner

Exactly the same reason i made mine, and to be honest would do it again, its cheap, easy and i dont really see how they make a difference from the other type? (other than maybe fraying bits of cardboard into the area in question?)
