lol glad ya got it sorted mate !!! nice touch , red does mean live on the ole british wiring on 230v ac now wot wi "harmonisation " god knows lol and i'm a spark !!!
was gonna suggest that if yer not elektrickery competant

a good method of wiring is to use a strip of connectors then ya can connect up each light one at a time afore makin yer final terminations ,,, that way if it dont work you can unscrew and try again in another terminal ..
another thing i noticed on bikes and on car wiring is only to use manufacturers colour codes as a guide!!

no 2 manufacturers use the same colours , plus an get this !!! wiring looms even on the same model of bike and car can differ ooo errr , if yer loom is wired in britain the earth can be black , but the same loom put together in say germany , the earth could be green or black or yellow , red even bloody pink !!!
now ye know why auto sparks charge so bloody much lol an fair play to em too
