tyre for drag racing

Post by scottt »

Hi there!

I was just wondering if anyone could recommend tyres for drag racing? Obviously it only needs to be grippy in a straight line and should fit on standard vtr1000 firestorm wheels. it doesnt need to be road legal, but should be as sticky as possible!

As a complete newbie, im not sure whether to go for slicks, track/road tyres, or just a sticky road tyre like a sportec..

Please excuse my ignorance, any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Your question is more specific to drag racing, not the bike as you will struggle to find anyone with a Firestorm that seriously drag races.

I would imagine a sticky back tyre is the same on any rim so try a drag racing forum?

Other than that, suggest racing slicks.

I know nowt about it for real, but...

I would have thought a sport touring tyre would be good. Reckoning on then not having to buy tyres every run :)

Wheelspin off the line wont be a problem on the Storm (wheelies might :) ) and a standing quarter is probably around 12.5 seconds at 120mph ish (guessing)

As said, as a serious drag bike, the Storm is way outclassed by anything remotely like a tuned Hayabusa, GSXR or ZZR14.

For hooning down a bit of airfield though I reckon it'll be a right laugh.
