Engine finish

Post by BarryH »

I need to sort some scuffing on the generator case. I've had Skidmarx lowers fitted since I've had the bike. It came with the lowers already fitted. The lowers have rubbed some of the finish off. Not normally a problem as you can't see it as the lowers cover it. But I've been playing with fibreglass matting and another set of lowers. I wasn't actually happy with the fit and finish of these new ones so took a moulding off of them tidied up the join and cut a hole so you can actually check the oil!

What I've ended up with is a one piece moulding that is a better shape fits properly and looks as if it was there when the bike left the factory. Apatures that were in the original plastic panels are now filled with a stainless mesh and being moulded in GRP are not as flimsey. All in all I'm well chuffed with the way they have turned out.

Where the Skidmarx panels covered the generator case, these new ones don't, so it looks a bit naff with the paint finish rubbed off. Anyone know where I can get the paint to respray the engine case. I'd like to keep it looking as standard as poss

Barry,

Not sure about engine paint, but these guys are supposed to be good for panels and tank paint etc, so I suppose they'll also do the correct engine colour.

R.S. Motorbike Paint

I went through my mates rack of touch up sticks and found as good a match as I could, OK for odd scratch etc but probably not a big area.
Can't remember off top of my head the colour but I'll look on shelf in garage tomorrow for it.

Any pics of the custom lowers?

Since you have now a mould, any chance you can knock another set out?

Let me know how much

Cheers,

Graeme

right mate

the closest match, which is barely a shade out is a ford colour. ive used it on my wheels and cases and to the normal person you would NOT know the difference

its ford graphite grey metallic and is available at halfords or something

trust me its so close

hope that helps
