Cleaning K&N Air Filter

Post by RedStormV »

Guys (and Laaaaadies),

Any tips on cleaning K&N Air Filter?

Am I best off shelling out for:

Recharger Filter Care Service Kit
K&N Cleaner & Degreaser
K&N Filtercharger Oil
K&N Sealing Grease

Some or all of the above?

Or are there easier, simpler, cheaper ways of going about it?

Perhaps these may invalidate lifetime warranty?

It's never been cleaned while I've had the bike (3 years ish)

So reckon it's long over due.

Cheers in advance,

Graeme

To be honest all I've ever done with K&N's is wash them in paraffin and the dry off with air hose and re apply the filter oil. Been doing that for as long as I can remember. Not had any issues with them.

3 years is a bit of a long time to leave it before a clean though! How rich is that bike running?

Steal your other halfs biggest baking tray and soak it in that. Dirty side down obviously.(But only if life has been too quiet recently  )

Hi,

Thanks for the advice guys.

Pete, if I was to steal wor lass' bakin' tray it'd be me walkin' funny with a squeeky voice for a day or 2.

Barry, going to check the plugs this week sometime to make sure they're the right colour.

BTW Found possibly the cheapest source for K&N Service Kit here:

MX5Parts - Click it

£8.95 inc free delivery! (next day if ordered before 3.00) :D

As opposed to this rip off merchant on Fleabay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/K-N-RECHARGER-FIL ... dZViewItem

£7.00 Plus £8.50 48 hour delivery!

Hi Max,

Got mine through the other day.

Only slight prob is that the site I mentioned doesn't list the K&N 'sealing grease'.

Seen it listed elsewhere at nearly same price as the service kit I just bought!!!

Anyone used it?

Know what type of grease it is? ie it may be available elsewhere under different name at a fraction of cost!

Where I can get some from?

Is it essential? / Does it make a difference?

Cheers,

Graeme
