Advice needed please, Cans on a Storm

Post by Taz69 »

Hi all, I recently fitted a set of Blue Flame cans to my storm loaned from my nephew, however according to BF they are powerports and they no longer supply the baffles/blanks etc for them so they are open cans.

My Storm has a K&N Air Filter fitted along with Standard cans before I purchased it, now with the BF's on, yesterday when out riding/testing the cans, lol, I noticed a sort of backfire when I released the throttle, it happened quite often, the longer I was out the more frequent it became.

Is this down to the Bf's making the Storm run Lean ? If I decide to keep the cans, whats the next course I should take, or should I get some Scorpions/Remus etc which apparently dont affect the running of the storm.

Regards

Cost you about £30-£40 to have it set up on a dyno.

Probably cheaper and easier than messing around with swapping cans.

Surely though, if it's popping, it's slightly rich? (which apparently, VTR's prefer)

Hi Kitch,

Not sure if the storms prefer Rich running, I know JHS Racing near me in Bristol do Dyno testing for £40, will have to call them to see what this includes, Just wondering if its worth keeping the Bf's as I cannot find any baffles/blanks for them anywhere, my local MOT center are fine with the cans, just not sure about the local bobby's, lol.

Been thinking about Yoshi RS3, Remus High Level or Scorpion High Levels.

I have been told the stock air filter is great on the storm, is it worth getting one or wil the K&N be okay if it set up correctly.

If you mean "popping" on overrun or a trailing throttle then that is normal with straight through exhausts. If any thing I'd say it was running slightly lean, especially with the K&N and straight thru cans.....

Hi Mark,Tim's a good man at JHS. For forty quid he'll run the bike up on the dyno and do a diagnostic for you. He gave me loads of free advise when I was down there last. You might have to book a time with him as he's quite popular now. Unfortunatley I'm sure it'll cost a little more if you want him to do the work and set it all up for you

Pete thanks for that chap, will give Jim a call, see what he reckons it will cost, he did recommend a set of High Level Remus cans for £436, Road Legal aswell, just not sure which ones to go for.

Cheers LSM for the info, so it may not be as bad as I am thinking.

Anyone have any thing to say about Renegade Cans ? Good bad etc.

it may well be chap, I was just a bit concerned, maybe over concerned but as this is my first V Twin and reading Ride review of cans and the nets chatter etc, I thought it may be down to the cans, mixture etc.
