what's a bike feel like if its running lean?

Post by stevevtr1 »

Posted a thread earlier, but its got worse, headgear had a similar problem which he sorted with Hotshot fuel additive, tried that no difference .Checked my carb balance today that was ok swapped plugs,no difference.the problem is once up to temp from 1500 rpm to 2500 rpm at standstill it feels hesitant if wound on slowly if snapped open iy misses & backfires .On the road at those revs it just misses til 3000 then its ok.
Had a K & N ,dynojet & set up done by Roger about 5K ago & it was spot on 'til aweek ago ,can a motor start to go off or should i be looking elsewhere ?
Cheers (getting desparate !!) Steve

Thanks for the replies, did a bit with the fuel side of things ,checked carb balance, stuck a bottle of hot shot fuel system cleaner in the tank took it for a thrash but its still missing & back firing.Think its the front thats missing so i'll look at swapping the coil (something with it backfiring as it picks up after missing is pointing me down the electrical route?).Let you know how it goes.
Cheers Steve

If you've narrowed it down to the front cylinder Steve, check the HT lead where it goes into the sparkplug cap. I think it was Stratman who found that connection to be giving a problem with a misfire. All he did was cut the bad bit of HT wire back a bit and re-fit it!

If it isn't that, may be the spark plug cap itself needs replacing :!:

Also stick in a new set of plugs. I had "issues" with mine. A new set of plugs is cheap and you know you've eliminated one area. It does sound more ignition related than fuel from what you say.
