Immobiliser

Post by Stratman »

I have a Meta 351 which has never caused any problems - till now! :x

Off to Wales in the morning for a few days so I thought I'd take the Storm instead of the TDM. Went to garage to do a few jobs (tyres etc) pressed immobiliser button to disarm - nothing. Tried spare fob - nothing, no bleeps or anything. :x :x

Turned on ignition - battery fully charged/light etc. not in gear or anything.

Still no joy. Fuses in alarm circuit seem fine. :x :x :x

Was perfectly OK when I put her away last week. Will do some tinkering this afternoon, but anyone have any pearls of wisdom?

OK. It would seeme that the Meta unit is fubar, so I can either get another fitted or have the thing removed, which means desoldering the alarm loom from the bike loom etc. Anyone had experience of doing this please?

I've removed alarms etc on previous bikes. Depends how "involved" the imobiliser gets with the bikes loom. A lot of it is just taking out the units loom and reconnecting wires that have been cut.

I don't bother with alarms etc anymore, more hassle than they're worth most of the time. Physical security seems a better bet. Long live the Almax chain and lock.

Before you start pulling wires out have a wiring diagram for the bike to hand.

Well, the local Meta dealer quoted 3 hrs @ £40 an hour to remove the old one, so I started picking away and checking with the wiring diagram and after an hour or so, off came the alarm, wires made good and, hey presto, started no problem.

Will invest some of that saved £120 on alcohol with my son when I visit him in Manchester tomorrow
