Hey all
Toying with the idea of buying a Motorcross/ enduro bike and taking it up at weekends for a laugh. Did think about doing club racing but decided that it would be too expensive to start with so would look at motorcross and see if i like the competition.
Any recomoendation on a bike to go with to start on? Any good places in the south east to go and play? Have seen chiltern enduro club and that looks like it might be worth ago thought i would put it to the forums first though :-)
Cheers

where to start!!!
do you want to race serious or for fun?
serious , join an ACU club, basically they give the best insurance cover, costs more to join but if you are injured it pays off. next AMCA, ORPA, IOPD check out their web sites with google or search engine.
if you want fun go twin shock scrambles, old pre 1983 bikes, usually 2 day meetings with a bar and band on the saturday night.
A good CRF250 for modern will set you back £2500-3000 a maico 490 probably £1500 tops a 400 cheaper.
If you want the enduro side something like a Husky/Berg 610 or a lighter 350 but may have to travel further to events.
alternatively supermoto a KTM or CRF 450 then get it road registered (if not allready) for excellent street fun. Had an old 510 Husky crosser I supermoto'd 2 of them best fun regret the days I sold them..
try the adrenaline trip forum, there is a map with practice tracks on plus different forums for the different disciplines. can be a bit sarky on there at times!!

I'm sure the competition will be fierce...Do a couple of seasons mxing and when you roadrace trading paint will be like child's play, lol...
I guess it depends on your budget and mechanical knowlege...4 strokes are great, but maintenance cost's more and is a little harder. But if you know how to do the stuff it's not too bad...But two strokes are just plain easier and cheaper...
But as above mentioned if you want to supermoto it go for a 4..Awesome fun backing it in...If you want to get into racing that is a great option too..Talking from experience my supermoto bike is one of the most fun bikes I've ever owned. When I got it, I didn't ride my roadracer for like 2 months and I took apart my dirtbike and sold that too...Superfun bike!
