Advice on buying a FireStorm please

Post by Dadbob »

Hi

I'm currently looking for a Firestorm but my budget is limited to approx. £3K. All the bikes I've seen in that price range are over 6 years old and with anything from 12K to 20K+ miles on the clock.

How do Firestorms stand up to the test of time and mileage? I've really got my heart set on one so want to make sure my investment is sound.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

They stand up to mileage no problem if looked after, the only major problem with the engine is the weak Chain Chain Tensioner (CCT) so you need to check when the were last changed otherwise budget say £100 to get them changed (DIY).
I am suprised you can not find a low mileage example for your budget.
For 3k, I would expect a 2000 - 2002 mint bike with less than 10k miles.

Cheers Andy.

They do seem to hold their value. The one I'd earmarked - 2002, 3.4K, £3,250 - was sold the day before I could get for a test ride! I'll keep looking.

Hi Dadbob,

I'm thinking about selling mine.

2002 F2 in metallic blue, high-level blue flame cans, datatool alarm, hugger, goodridge hoses, excellent condition, 4000miles.

Just serviced, diablo's fitted less than 400 miles ago.

£2800 for a quick sale if you're interested.

Davey.

Firestorm on ebay

I agree with the above. I just picked up a 99 model 12K miles - loads of mods (USD fork conversion, ohlins shock, cans, dynojet) Mint condition loads of receipts - all for £2,200 !

Check this one out on ebay - It's also been converted to USD - In my opinion this totally transforms the bike and is well worth considering (I've owned two storms before this one).

also check out Parkers guide to give yourself an idea of price ranges for year and condition;

Good luck.

I picked up my 2002 f2 on ebay, 2 owners, 6k on the clock, high level cans a years mot and tax, new rear tyre and just been serviced for £2500. They are out there and cheap enough for the quality of bike you get you can't go wrong :D

Davey's bike sounds like a very reasonable deal 8)

Hi John,

I'm near Sunderland, an hour or so up the road. I'm offshore on a ship at the moment but hopefully home on Friday (weather and helicopters permitting) so I can sort some photo's for you then.

Cheers.
