spark plugs

Post by chaz »

just about to tackle the cct's and removed tank and air box as instructions..
next the plugs...
socket???? went thru all the small ones i have and none fitted, found a similar plug to ones in the spare box and its bigger than expected!! now Ive read the posts on search I see!! was going to give up for the day and buy another...

anyway, dropped the socket down the hole and while trying to locate found the plug not actually done up very tight, didnt need wrench to loosen, back one this was.
maybe thats why the motor sounded funny?

anyhow, puzzled as Haynes say NGK DPR9EVX-9 gapped 0.8-0.9mm
one Ive removed is a Denso X27EPR-ZU9 gapped 0.85

cant find a UK reference to it and the Denso USA site does not list the Storm, Im sure I bought new ones to go in but cant find.

anyone know if the Denso above is the right or similar one for the 97 storm?
BTW dont have handbook or tool kit.

According to this site you've got the correct plugs. But have not found anything yet on gap info.

Chris.

Back again :!: According to this Denso chart (gap chart at the bottom of link) ( http://www.globaldenso.com/PLUG/spec/index.html ) the number "9" in the reference numbers and letters on your plug denote a 0.9mm gap which would coincide with the Haynes manual.

HTH,

Chris.

The plug socket that comes in the toolkit is good - has a rubber insert and a pivot, so you can grip the plug tightly when putting it in.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

thanks Chris, now how come I couldnt find that.

Stratman, if only I had the toolkit!!

normal socket has the rubber inside but its a tight fit, all running when I started first but now a bit lumpy!! Oh well, chinese now and a beer and have a look in the morning.

update front pipe from cam cover to airbox not on tight, difficult to get to with big hands a pair of long nosed pliers helps, also had pipe to rear of fuel tap on bottom not back.
everything ok now.
