Stange noise from rear cylinder

Post by genisis »

Hi All,

Just reading the post's about the CCT's mine has just hit 16000 going in for valve clearances soon.

the last couple of days i have noticed a rattling coming from the rear cylinder
and put it down to CCT however reading the other post someone suggested that if the noise was increasing with engine rev's it could just be the valve clearances
is that right? if i don't have to pay for the CCT's just yet then i would be very happy
It also only seems to come in once the bike is a little warm and only above 3k rpm

thanks

I would've thought that if your gonna get the cct's done anyway, now would be a good time as you'd save on labour because they're stripping it so far to do the clearances.

Mathew, if you do a search for APE ccts on here you will be pleasantly surprised, they are from the US and are manual, much better than the honda jobbies and not really that expensive!

Matthew,

If you have any doubts it could be the CCT(s) for what it costs, get them changed, because if one does decide to let go, it will cost you a lot more :!: In my experience though normally a CCT thats starting to pack up is more noticeable below 3,000rpm's rather than above :!:

going to have them changed anyway. I'm a little confused as to what the noise could be. Just because the valves need the clearances doesn't mean the bike will rattle like a b**** once it hits 16000. Well that my thinking anyway.
hoping to save some cash and have it done at the end of the month

Mine rear CCT started to rattle off throttle below 3k rpms. Didn't do it from cold but was on off when warmed up a bit. Ran the bike for 1wk without noticing (thought it was the exhaust baffle rattling). Honda part plus labour £96, not bad really. Noise gone now. My tip is run the bike without earplugs at least once weekly to hear if the CCTs are starting to go, its quite hard to noitce this with them in. The mechanic had changed 12 CCTs in the last 5yrs and mine was the first rear but the only one that hadn't resulted in a bust valves or more serious damage!
