Exhaust Packing-Stainless Steel Wool.

Guys,

I have needed to repack my slip-ons on the SP1 s they were getting noisier. The advice that i got was to use stainless steel wool wrapped around the baffle tube, with fiberglass exhaust wadding over that. If I had just wrapped the normal fibreglass wadding around the baffle tube, the big v-twin pulses burns/blows it out in no-time. Getting the stainless wool (ordinary steel wool would burn, resulting in a lovely fireworks display from the end can) is nigh-on impossible...nothing on E-Bay.

Anyhoo, I have found a supplier for this stuff-- even better they are local to me (they are a trade supplier to Bosal etc). The upshot is, that I have bought a mahoosive roll of the stuff (6 Kg in total) as they only sell in this size. I have enough to last me a lifetime, so if anyone wants some, then please let me know.

It is about 4" wide, so is plenty easy to wrap the baffles in.

well what remus do is wrap stainless mesh round the perferated tube then pack gladd fibre wadding round it. it seemed good enough for them

Thats exactly what I have done. The MTC cans that I had, had no steel wool inside at all. As a result, the fibre wadding had burned completely through to the skin of the can.

I have wrapped the steel wool around the perforated tube, then normal exhaust-packing over that.

If you're looking to offload some I'll buy it off you. I'm often asked to make baffles for the local kids who can't get their cars/bikes thro the MOT!

Sure. I have a roll thats about 2-3 feet in diameter. How much do you want?
