Front end

Post by JoeMac »

Ok. Here goes.

My 98 Storm has a pair of knackered fork stanchions, corroded. I'm looking to replace the forks completely. I have read a lot of info on here about fork upgrades, fireblade etc, and Revolution reworks. But all i want to do at the moment is sort the problem. To strip them down have the stanchions re-chromed and ground, then re-build with new seals bush's oil and repaint the lowers will cost around £200. I can do it all bar the chrome and grind.

So, what other forks will fit straight in, CBR600, VFR or is my search limited to VTR. A hornet front would be good so i can fit some renthals.

Any help appreciated.

160 max for replacement stanchions on their own and the work to rebuild them - DIY - is so easy

if you were to upgrade, are you getting rid of your current forks?

I would be binning the old ones as the stanchions are shot and the lowers need either polishing or repainting. Unless they can be re-homed.

Strip and rebuild is not a problem, I'm an aircraft mechanic by trade.
DS want 170 +vat for a pair of fork tubes. Add to that seals, oil, upper bush's(may as well) paint for the lowers and your over 200 8O

To be rechromed and ground is a little less, 135 the pair plus all the bits. But I've seen complete front ends going for well under 200.

Ebay is the place, just wondered if i'm tied to a vtr front end.

If its just stanchions, surely any 41mm ones will do? VFR and CBR both have them (similar model year to the storm) and tons of other bikes, CB1's for instance.

Won't any of them do?
