Idle ideas

Post by Kitch »

OK, what would casue this symptom?

Idle speed wont hold at a constant revs and it hunts furiously over 1000 rev range.

Everything else is absolutely fine running wise.

Roger's gonna fix it, but I'd like to get an idea what might be causing it.

I agree too, it could be due to an air leak somewhere, but it could be due to quite a few different posibilities imo.

(1) Carbs need balancing.

(2) Idle jets need adjusting, mixture wrong on tick over.

(3) Spark plugs need replacing or regaping.

Thats just a few of the cheaper options before you start going into the more expensive posibilities.

I'll be interested too hear Kitch what Roger finds that is actually the culprit.

And
4) Don't forget the choke cable. One side can stick so it doesn't return properly and that certainly buggers up your tick over

you can check for air leaks by spraying the rubbers with WD40 while the bike is running or at least that's what i've been told
