the storms winter fettling

Post by warby221 »

The story so far with the storms winter fettling

Fitted new engine well it’s new to me anyway

Swapped over manual cct’s, dyno jet’s, K&N and fitted new clutch and springs and a 4degre advancer

Fitted new chain and renthal sprockets nice gold ally one gone for 15t front 43t rear and a bag of sand for the bars to hold it down

Fitted new back tyre

All the forks are done now re-valved, springs and stations with the lowers now repainted silver

Re-sprayed the belly pan and under tray in 2k not to bad if I say so myself
Fitted rear hugger and DB screen

R1 regulator rectifier now fitted

Just need a shock now hoping to have it in a couple of week

Then rebuilding my old motor with a set of cases of a 2000 model and doing a bit of port work on it

Also acquired a full set of valve shims so no having to order any now just pick the ones I need and fit

Mrs Now threatening to cut my gonads off if I spend any more on that bloody bike

So my lucks still in

Normally have to pay extra for that

The r1 spring is made of 10 dia wire and has less coils than the VFR’s who’s is 12.5 dia so it is heavier spring overall dia of the shock is the same as the VTR one 80mm I think off hand
The overall length is just about the same although I use the body cover and spring retainer off a zzr 639 shock that adds another 10mm of preload to the spring
With this set-up I was getting 12mm static sag then 37mm of sag with me on board with no preload dialled in that’s for a 15+ stoner
except for the run to the mot I’ve only ridden 2 up at the moment first outing today spring seemed a bit soft for two so have to have an adjust se if its any better feels a bit under damped to if the adjustment runs out the only way to improve it would be to change the suspension rocker ratio
Just tried it as a stop gap measure till I get a decent shock in a about three of weeks
All the part I’ve used are what I had as Spares kicking about so just been experimenting
I need to have a day setting it up I think before I give an opinion on the usability of the r1 shock
I think a few have used them on the super hawk forum but when I did a search for r1 shock didn’t find much just a mention here and there

you git I’ve just typed all that lot
:x
Lol sods law that if you need any pic’s let us know I’ll take a few more m8
A duke shock looked a good possibility the little tank runs to the side on them you may be able to get one to fit as you have to make a spacer to make up the overall length of the shock to match the storms 345 mm
