All Storm Swappers

To all the guys and gals that have swappped their Storm it would be great to hear your reviews of the replacement machines. It would be ideal as you have recently climbed off a Storm onto something new so all performance and handling details are fresh and relevent (no reminiscing and possibly biased views). I personally am more than happy with the Storm but will be looking to add to the stable in the future, money permitting.
Up to now I think I have read quite a few
Mellis swapped for Gixxer (a while ago), SP for Blade, Timbo for ZRX 1200 (near future) just to mention a few. There are probably loads more.

have riden last years GSXR and that will be the bike im changing to! Raw power, point it in the right direction and your flying! Amazing bike!

Also rode a 2yr old R1, very nice bike but i felt like i was sitting on top of a toy bike..i think maybe because im tall (or just generally a bit of a freak).

The new blade is ment to be quite comfy but ive not tried it so cant comment.

All depends on your budget and taste i guess! I have to admit im getting very annoyed at having to work twice as hard to stay on top in races with these newer more improved sports bikes, the storm just doesnt cut it these days, let alone in standard trim!

i had a go on my mates 955i trumph daytona it was awsom and the one thing i noticed how smooth it was not any vibration at all, the rear view mirrors were you could see the whole road in the and not an elbow in sight, the response from the engine was great but i though it was to easy to ride, but a nice smooth ride none the less

Yeah a friend has a Daytona which looks great but you need to be about 5' 6" tall and weigh about 12 st max to look 'right' on it.
At 6' 2.5" tall guess what fits me perfectly?

The Ducati 1098 that's what!!!!!

iam only 5ft 9 and slighlty over weights but i dont give a dam,

if god wanted me thin he would have made me taller

i had a sit on a 1098 at the nec bike show and i found it so comfy i fit that bike really well pity my wallet doesnt lol

Pre-Storm I took a test ride on the Street Triple, absolute hooligan of a bike

light, agile and very powerful. It was that good, I took the bandit round for trade in. On the phone he promised me the world but after inspecting the bike (and prob recieving lots of orders for new machines) he offered pitance for my old friend. Went home in a major sulk but decided rather than having finance hanging round my neck I would buy a cheaper bike. No regrets but god the Triumph is awesome.

The answer? Remove wallet before sitting on the bike!!!

me and vtr bob, were gonna tell you about our bikes we have owned /roadtested, but it would fill 12 pages..just one little note to add tho, in over 24 years of constant bike ownership/riding....the storm does stand out

Had a few from my very first bike a puch 50 . the usual fs1e, rd 250lc, ft 500.gsx 1000 (kat) and a few others not worth mentioning to my storm.

storm will be staying with me till im dead, can't get my leg over it or i think its getting dangerous to carry on riding from old age.

Jumped off the storm onto an SP1. Very, very different machine. Feel like you are hovering over the front end. Painful throttle, stalled it every time at the lights for the first couple of days.

GSXR is a dream, easy to ride, twice as fast as anything else (feels like), reliable, fast, well made, light clutch, fast, dodgy low speed handling, wheelies in third off the throttle, comfy, fast, eats tyres, eats brake pads, fast and above all else..... FAST!!

I decided that I would go the other way after the storm went, I figured that a total change would be just what I needed after a bad session with the storm and was passing a triumph dealer and saw this

Had it a few years now and can say that I have really enjoyed it, as ever it has undergone a few modifications as you do, probably about ready for something new so we'll see

Lee and I swapped not long back. He has my old storm and I now have his TLS.

Id say they are both very similar in many ways. The VTR had a few extra bits added like the blade forks and jet kit. The VTR is a very good bike for little Â£Â£Â£Â£. The only thing I was'nt happy with was the standard suspension set up, thus the forks. I was going to fit a new rear shock too. Plus the jets gave it a bit more kick.

The TL is, imo, more comfortable. The rotary damper has'nt been an issue and ive not had the steering damper on it now for a few months. Again, no problems. It does shake its head a little here and there, but my RGV250R was far worse. The TL has more miles on it than the VTR but it still holds up well.

The TL's motor has the edge on the storm for me. Mind it should do with the extra pony's. Id say the storm benifits from more midrange grunt/chunky delivery, but the TL doesnt run out of rpm like the storm. TBH for the first few weeks I wasn't reving it enough! Get it up to around 6g in 3rd and pin it

its quite a different experience to the storm!

All in all, both different bikes, both very capable. Just depends what type of "character" you prefer.

yeah john when revved hard the tl was a beast...just stomped away from most bikes..still miss it..to me it was easier to ride low down than the storm, so ideal for villages etc, whereas the storm feels best at midrange like u say...just to let u know the strom is completely cured of its hiccups...new standard filter worked a treat...and still managed 113 to rlod on sundays ride( steady mindst)..all in all im happy with the storm, even the colour has grown on me, thinking of fitting some renthals tho, just to help me old bones lol...also fitting some diff high levels ( hopefully this afternoon)..

I would'nt mind a stainless down pipe set up for the tiller. Mind, the ones on it are supposed to be stainless anyway, under the paint

What high levels you got? Some you can fit the pillion rests with?
