Had a bad experience attempting to lock off the ccts a couple of days ago.Fitted the front cct locking screw refit air box tank etc fired up no worries ,fitted the rear locking screw & started up.. WTF,loads of rattling tapping ,hit the kill switch.removed the locking screw ,fired up running sweet again.Refit the locking screw could here the camchain rattling around.
decided to remove the front locking screw ,which sheared off in the cct BO**OCKS.no choice then but to set the rear cyl in position & go through 450 degrees to remove the front cct & remove the sheared screw (cheers for the proceedure Chris).Thats when i noticed th RI mark was 1 tooth out(maybe jumped when i locked the rear cct & heard all the rattling?).
Anyway,as the engine sounded ok after removing the rear cct locking screw,do you reckon it could've damaged any valves ,only jumping 1 tooth,will 1 tooth out make any differencnce to performance?
Any advice welcome

I had the same prob the rear had jumped 1 tooth. Once set up correctly ran fine with no lasting problems (done 3000+miles since refit). Hope all is good. Its all to easy to mess up,I had rear cam cover off but still ended up one tooth out! it was the one with the 6mm bolt drilled & tapped to take a 4mm screw with the end ground down to fit the slot in the end of the tensioner (VTRBobs design ithink).Only thing i can think is the rear tensioner maybe stuck & didn't extend fully when the chain was at its slackest before i locked it up? if that makes any sense!
I decided to remove the front locking screw as well but the 6mm bolt sheared so i had to go through your proceedure to get the tensioner out & remove the sheared screw .Which is when i noticed the rear timing was out a tooth.
Retiming that this aft so i'll keep you posted on the results.

,retimed the rear exhaust cam (it had jumped 2 teeth).Fired up ok went for a short ride out, no noises or lack of performance
Total relief that i got away with it really ,oh & it felt real good to be out again first time this year

I'm with you now about the type of CCT mod you were doing. I would say there's very little metal left of the 6mm bolt once you fit a 4mm one down through the centre of it, approx. 1mm all the way around to be precise. Therefore it would only stand being nipped up a very small amount
I expect you've already worked that out for yourself now

Going to gat some manual tensioners & fit them later this year when i check the valve clearances.Did fit new springs winter before last but just can't get this cct failure thing out of me head
