Gilera Runner, Peugeot Speedfight or similar?

Post by clayderman »

Looks like I will be losing space to park my car at work soon so am considering a scooter rather than riding the Storm into work every day. Has anyone any experience of the above models or any other similar types?

it just so happens ive had loads of scoots yrs ago, when i used to do men& motors( yes i was famous)..i had a tuned speedfight, was ok...reliable cheap to run..then i got a runner 180...and turned it into a sprinter...would leave sportsbikes at lights everytime......but a bog standard runner 125 will do 70mph..return 50mpg and cost a pittance to run, also very reliable if looked after...for cheap commuting u cant beat em

what you actually want? a moped or bigger scoot.
peugeot runner 50cc moped with a few bits on makes good speed.
peugeot vivacity 100 can be tuned as well.
most parts are interchangeable on vivacity/speedfight maybe another.
some 50's have interchange between them and the 100s but you have to watch the cdi's they are a problem.
also the vivacity uses an immobiliser which can be a pain if you get it without the chipped key.

Yeah sorry should have mentioned the engine size, either a Peugeot Speedfight 100 or a Gilera Runner 125 or 180.

I had a speedfight 100 about ten years ago. Was a brilliant scooter for commuting. Could run it on £5 of fuel all week (when petrol cost 70p a litre or so...) and had loads of room to store stuff under the seat. Topped out at about 65 MPH.

My mate had a runner 180 and that was seriously quick and felt more planted in the bends. I couldn't get one as I was on a CBT and L plates.

If I had to buy a scoot now, for the reasons you have highlighted, Id go for a 180 runner

Well I've dipped into my savings and bought myself a Gilera Runner VXR200 4stroke beast  only ridden it up and down my private road at the moment due to no tax. I can say that it's got a fair amount of go to it 8) but will take a little getting used to as the steering feels like you're sitting over the front wheel 8O if anyone's interested I'll do a proper report once I've done a few miles on it.

nice choice m8....look into getting a pipe( scorpion or leovince') , add to that a malossi variator', used with standard belt..and a 34mm carb and it will fly...as for the steering, yep totally diff to riding a motorbike,,but great once your used to small wheels..i miss all mine...as it is now standard yours will top 80 mph..bout 85 true speed :D
