Adhesive remover

Post by Beebug52 »

Hi

Does anyone know what I can use on the fuel tank to remove old adhesive?

I bought a secondhand tank and it had a tank protector on it but was lifting off - I removed it but has now left with a ghost imprint

Thanks

Are you sure that 'ghost imprint' isn't just the tank colour fading on all the rest of it? Normally red colours are worst for this. Only way around it is normally to fit a new tank protector that does stick correctly!

white spirit as mentioned should do the trick.. dont want any thing to strong cause it might dmg the laquer on the tank... let some whitespirits soak into it before rubbing like stalker in the bushes at the changing room window..

if its thick adhesive it will take time for the white spirit to break it down.

Chemist should have it, though they'll give you a funny look

For good measure also ask for a bottle of codeine cough medicine (not shaken ;) )

Otherwise CD cleaning fluid is the same stuff - isopropanol alcohol not cough med

Paraffin is my new bestest friend. I use it for general cleaning and de-greasing, but it also does a great job on removing adhesive off a tank.

well i just spent nearly 2 hours removing the gay yellow wheel stickers off my front wheel, ( yeah i still got the rear wheel to do )
and after using a hair dryer to remove the tape there was a lot of gunk left over from the sticcky sh1t and a good degreasent did the job after it was left to soak in...

and on that note... before you apply wheel trim stickers please make sure its for life... cause although it takes a few mins to apply it takes some poor SOD ( me ) hours to remove!!!
