2-1 exhaust results

Post by mik_str »

Two words: Oh yeah!!!!!!

I went out for a good ride after putting everything together as per the excellent advice received from Daz and am totally impressed and happy with the result. Although I realize that the seat of the pants can be fooled (and I haven't ridden the bike in over four months) but the mid-range hit is absolutely awesome (BTW, I spent a few days last week test riding a new Speed Triple and am quite confident that my VTR would trounce it in a roll-on). Rolling on the throttle in top gear at 120 km/h (4800 rpm with my current gearing) has the bike surging ahead like gangbusters (you can actually feel the weight tranferring back from the pull). I tried roll-ons from different speeds (up to 7K) and have no flat spots of any kind. It just pulls and pulls (note: I was somewhat expecting this, however, as earlier notes posted by Daz indicated that people who ran DJ kits jetted for dual slip-ons typically require no jetting changes).

The exhaust sound is quite a bit louder than before (although my Microns were repacked last year and I am unsure as to the status of the Blue Flame can I have on there now) but it is a deep crackle, and quite pleasant. I will likely open the can up and see if it needs to be re-packed. Either way, I will have to be extra careful in residential areas (something I always do anyway).

I am sure that the time spent using the Dremel to clean up the sloppy factory welds in the header (where the two pipes come together) helped too. Overall, it looks awesome and runs even better. I can't wait to finish everything up with the (PVM) wheels, forks, brakes and all.

I am having a hard time wiping this silly grin off my face

cheers

PVM?

I'm not 100% but I seem to recall people on another forum having great difficulty getting pads etc for these as a lot of the major retailkers (demon tweaks, M&P etc) had ceased dealing with them
Might be worth a check
I've got an inferiority complex
But its not a very good one!

Hi Ben

the PVM I am referring to are the wheels, not the brakes.

Hi Mick
Glad you are pleased with the end results, I remember the first time I rode my bike after the conversion and almost flipped the damn thing!

LOL

I am VERY pleased :) Thanks for the advice/pointers, they really helped.

I can't wait to get the light wheels on now to see how they help things out too. I would image the much-reduced inertia will make it snappier yet. Can't wait!!!!!

This is like Christmas all over again, lol

Hey gents,

the dyno sheet is not mine but rather one I found while looking through the BikePics site. The one odd thing about it is that the hp and torque curves do not cross at 5252 rpm (as they ought to) but the scales on both sides (hp and torque) are different too so that may be the reason.

In so far as pics are concerned, my gf has my digital camera at the moment (a lame excuse, I know) but I will wait to post pics when all of the mods (900RR forks and calipers, 600RR radial MC, PVM rims (which, btw, are now powdercoated red, he he)) are done, the Sharkskinz lower is back on and the bike is clean. She'll be a sweet ride, trust me :)

cheers

P.S. I work as editor of a bike mag now and will be doing a write-up on my project since day 1, will be sending a copy to Roger D as he has proved to be an invaluable asset in helping put it all together over the years :) Also, I do plan on having it dynoed again to see how the 2-1 exhaust affects the power curve.
