I have just renovated mine (for the second time) with halfrauds hi temp aluminium spray.
Looks nice......ok its not stainless but it gives a good finish that dosent look like a monkey has been at them with a tin of hammerite 8O

Minimal prep required and its only about £8 a can.

I think IMO that once the mild steel ones go rusty your on a lengthy hiding to nothing trying to rub em back to mint again.
I dare say now someone will post pics of their pristine restored down pipes ??
I just dont have the patience.

I cleaned mine up with a fibre scouring pad and plenty of wd40 with the thinking that any paint you put on them is gonna chip off

Didnt take that long really and although the shiny look does fade after a while the wd40 stops them going rusty and they turn a nice bronze colour (which happily matches my Blade fork legs  )

The pic was taken 2 years after I did it

Thing is they should"nt go rusty being stainless.I thought they were mild steel until i took a magnet to them.Unless they are a type of ferritic stainless, but more likely just a rubbish grade. The rust certainly looks like rust, but comes up nice depending how much time you have.. :D

Girl friend. Slightly less expensive to run than a wife but disposable at lower cost.
