Bar Risers

I have read with some interest that some of you use bar risers on your VTR's. I am contemplating the idea but would any one recommend them ,,, do they work and are they worth the price??

I used to just have the clipons as high up the forks as I could which gave me another 1/2" or so. The lugs didn't engage in the headstock, but I did 20,000 miles like that no problem.

Now have them lower again as I tour on something else.

Hi mate,
ive just done the mod,angled risers n superbike bars from "busters",less tha 50 quid delivered.
With these you do need to trim the fairing with a dremmel or simillar,use a bit if tape for a guide,only takes a few mins a side.
Also i cut around 20mm from bottom of risers to save cutting a lot from the fairing. Only thing i needed to do was extend horn wires by 4 inches , and move throttle cables to outside of fork tube. I positioned the front of the risers to align with the front of the Honda logo on the yoke. I did need to drill n tap a new hole in the risers ,if you were to cut more from fairing,ie,position risers further forward,you could use the 2 original holes in the risers instead.
I think the risers vtrbob used,cost twice the price,and imo dont look as good, but ,prob less work,ie cuttin fairing ,poss drillin/tapping new hole if required,etc. Infact, if i were to do the job again,i would prob buy them.

Bloody nice bars mate but a bit too much custom for me. but still nice bike and bars.

bikerpiker - that looks a lovely job on the bars. Think I'll keep an eye on ebay for a spare top yoke to try that mod.

Glad you like it,,wasn't sure about the gold bars myself,but look not too bad with the gold brake calipers. My wee mate says they're a bit "gay",them and my rim tapes

Think hes just kiddin though

Hankie..you dont really need a spare yoke,everything was done on the bike,was bit trial and error,but,if it didnt work out i was goin to buy a yoke cover to hide the holes i drilled.

as mike says bob has his done and phils too...no cutting of fairing involved, just longer brakes lines needed

Yep, totally agree mate, but Â£60 risers as opposed to Â£30,and, imo don't look that great,and the cutting of the fairing only takes a few mins,its the cutting the risers,drilling and tapping holes,thinking it out,that takes time. Easy enough if got access to tools.
Although im happy and prefer the look of this mod,i do kinda wish i had just bought the risers you're refering to and saved a wee bit o hassle.

I like the way you've machined the back part of the risers Stevie, to make them look more like an original fitment to the top yoke

The gold bars look good imo too

Hi Chris,cheers....the backs of em were just cut with a hacksaw at home,then i cleaned them up with a belt sander,turned oot ok

Timbo, i know what your sayin,but i lifted my clip-ons 19mm(same thickness as GB-Moto or Genmar risers) and bolted em on, then used bike for a few weeks,was a huge improvement, but still had pain in my wrists.
Havin said that, my mate just bought a set of gb moto risers for his Blackbird ,and he thinks the're great.
Ps you done ok for a tenner,think my mate paid Â£40 odd .

So from what I can gather the risers are OK if you pay little for them but don't pay a lot because the little they do is not worth the cash ?
